How mastery tracking works
Skill-by-skill, not just an overall grade
Traditional gradebooks give you one number — a percentage. But that tells you nothing about which specific skills a student has mastered and which ones need work. AdaptiveMath tracks mastery at the topic level, across all 111 lessons in the AP Calculus curriculum.
Mastery is earned, not given
Students progress through mastery levels by demonstrating consistent accuracy on a topic. Getting one question right isn't enough — you need to show sustained understanding across multiple attempts and difficulty levels before a skill is marked as mastered.
This means the mastery data you see is reliable. When a student shows L5 mastery on a topic, you can trust that they actually understand it — not that they got lucky on a single question.
